SUMMARY:Facts and Fabulations
DESCRIPTION:Facts and Fabulations is an exhibition composed largely of archival material from the University of the Western Cape–Robben Island Museum–Mayibuye Archives. \nSeven images appear on the walls\, whose dimensions are expanded through the recorded fabulations of UWC students in response to them. Augmented Reality installations that open into related archival materials also expand the dimensions. Curated by Marcos Martins\, it results from an intensive research period undertaken during a Digital Curatorial Fellowship in the New Archival Visions Programme at the Centre for Humanities Research\, UWC. \nPositioned as a countercurrent to the rapid consumption of images and information of today\, the exhibition provides an experience in which fabulations and facts intertwine\, slowing the acts of viewing while layering the processes of learning. Fabulations are understood not merely as exercises in imagination\, but as that which marks our repertoire: where we come from. Facts are released from ossified official narratives and conceptualized instead as the very movement toward facts. Ultimately\, attention is drawn to our current regime of truth\, suggesting that truth remains possible when space and time are opened for its experience.

DESCRIPTION:WindWorx\, Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town Symphonic Wind Ensembles come together to honour the life and legacy of Sean Kierman in a special collaborative tribute concert. \nThe programme features WindWorx and the Stellenbosch University Symphonic Wind Ensembles\, conducted by acclaimed German conductor Christian Kohler\, alongside the UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble—an ensemble Kierman led for many years—now under the direction of Brandon Phillips\, Head of Woodwind and Ensembles at UCT. \nFounded in 2005\, WindWorx provides a vital platform for professional and semi-professional musicians\, championing excellence in wind band repertoire. The Stellenbosch University Symphonic Wind Ensemble will also perform the South African premiere of The Shadow of Sirius\, featuring acclaimed flautist Cobus du Toit as soloist. The UCT Symphonic Wind Ensemble\, comprising fifty-five undergraduate and postgraduate musicians\, reflects the breadth of emerging talent within the South African College of Music. \nThis much-anticipated concert celebrates Kierman’s lasting musical leadership\, his deep commitment to the wind band community\, and the artistic legacy he nurtured across generations.
