DESCRIPTION:Facts and Fabulations is an exhibition composed largely of archival material from the University of the Western Cape–Robben Island Museum–Mayibuye Archives. \nSeven images appear on the walls\, whose dimensions are expanded through the recorded fabulations of UWC students in response to them. Augmented Reality installations that open into related archival materials also expand the dimensions. Curated by Marcos Martins\, it results from an intensive research period undertaken during a Digital Curatorial Fellowship in the New Archival Visions Programme at the Centre for Humanities Research\, UWC. \nPositioned as a countercurrent to the rapid consumption of images and information of today\, the exhibition provides an experience in which fabulations and facts intertwine\, slowing the acts of viewing while layering the processes of learning. Fabulations are understood not merely as exercises in imagination\, but as that which marks our repertoire: where we come from. Facts are released from ossified official narratives and conceptualized instead as the very movement toward facts. Ultimately\, attention is drawn to our current regime of truth\, suggesting that truth remains possible when space and time are opened for its experience.

Through talking\, singing\, dancing\, breathing\, writing\, and moving\, we develop embodied skills that help us live with more joy\, resilience and choice:\n– Listening deeply (to ourselves and each other)\n– Staying grounded when things feel uncertain\n– Feeling without drowning in it\n– Staying with what’s tender or uncomfortable\n– Learning to resource ourselves \nEach gathering has a gentle theme but we also follow what wants to emerge. Sometimes we’ll grieve. Sometimes we’ll celebrate. Sometimes we’ll process. Sometimes we’ll learn skills. Sometimes we’ll just sit together in silence. Whatever shows up\, we’re practicing the same core things: sensing\, grounding\, repair\, collective care. The idea is that what we practice here ripples out – into our relationships\, our creative work\, the world we’re building together. \nThis space centers FLINTA folks (female\, intersex\, non-binary\, transgender and agender) and is organised by Friends For The Apocalypse and hosted by Axminster House. They are a 500-hour certified Yoga Teacher specialising in nervous system regulation and trauma-informed practice. They are also currently in training as a TRE® (Trauma and Tension Release) facilitator\, and have additional certifications in and experience as a Mindfulness Teacher and Transformation Coach. \nTheir work is rooted in the conviction that social justice requires personal transformation – and that both unfold in relationship\, in practice\, over time. They create supportive spaces where participants develop the embodied capacity for presence\, feeling and skillful relationship: the foundations we need to build futures where we can all thrive.

These guided pottery workshops are designed for complete beginners\, with small class sizes so you get real\, one-on-one attention throughout. You don’t need any experience or creative confidence — we’ll teach you simple hand-building techniques and guide you through the entire process. And yes\, you will leave with something you’re proud of. \nAll tools and materials are provided\, and classes will be based around a theme or type of pottery\, but if you have something specific you’d like to make\, you’re welcome to bring reference images and we’ll help you bring it to life. Classes are small on purpose\, so you’re never left feeling lost or self-conscious\, and everything you need to make your masterpiece is provided. You don’t need experience\, talent\, or confidence. Just show up with curiosity\, and a willingness to get your hands dirty. The clay does the rest! \nYour piece will be fired and glazed by us and ready for collection in a few weeks.
